Tommy Ashman and Elliott Tucker - Founders of Movement Mender LLC

The Hip Helper was created by accident.

Hi, this is Elliott, the guy on the right. I'm not a physician or doctor or any sort of qualified professional in the health and fitness industry... I'm a car guy and I run a business that makes car stuff.

In 2022 I wanted to try a hip-releasing product I saw online but thought it was too expensive for what it was. I didn't want to support a product I knew could be (and maybe should be) more affordable.

My car business has the resources to design and test small plastic products, so I designed my own tool.

It started as a pyramid shape with a smooth, rounded top. I 3D printed it. When first trying it out I realized there definitely can be benefits to this kind of tool.

I got more invested in the project and after five or six iterations of the pyramid I changed to PLA, an eco-friendly plastic made from corn starch.

At this point I was happy with the design. I added the name "hip helper" as a final touch.

I shared it with friends and family to get feedback. Tommy (on the left in the photo) was one of those friends. He has a business making crazy exercise equipment (giant swords) and a network of fitness influencers in LA. As a former stretch therapist he immediately recognized what my tool did.

He said something along the lines of "This is great, why are you not selling these?" Well, I was just curious and went down a rabbit hole making my own. But I was inspired by Tommy and got back to work to polish the device.

Over thirty design tweaks later, with feedback from physical therapists, gym owners, and personal trainers, we arrived at the product you see today. 

The Hip Helper. Eco-friendly plastic and nearly 85% air. It's still 3D-printed out of just a few ounces of material. For now, this process has killer efficiency.

The price is competitive with products, if not a fraction of the cost, for the same satisfying impact and results.

That's the story of how a passion project turning into a life-changing tool for everyone.
